So, most of you will know that I've been away for the last few days and will be away for most of next week too. I absolutely love going away, but I hate that feeling when I come home and I'm back to square one, feeling crappy and craving fresh, healthy food. So this time round, I'm trying to lessen the damage. Here's my tips to help anybody else who may be away, or heading away in the next couple of weeks.
1. Drink as much water as you can during the day
If, like me, you'll be indulging in some night-time tipples (which is totally allowed!!) try drinking water during the day, so you don't end up being completely dehydrated and groggy the following day.
2. Get a healthy breakfast and lunch
We're lucky enough to be in self-catering accommodation - which I generally opt for, if possible - and it means that we can have what we want for our meals. I've been keeping breakfast fairly good - porridge, healthy cooked breakfast, etc and lunches quite light - salads and slim bagels, etc. It means then that I can go and enjoy my main meal in the evening.
3. Get some exercise in
I've been out running each day so far (see my Snapchat: lorrainepinky for more daily updates) and it's a great way of keeping active during your holiday. A quick run in the morning or evening, or even a small workout if you can is so easy to do and only takes 30 minutes out of the day. We always end up going on adventures on our holidays, and this one has been no different! We ended up at the top of the Cliffs of Moher yesterday. Our legs were on fire after it, but the views were so worth it!
4. Bring some snacks from home with you
I packed a bag full of little goodies to stop me from buying crisps and sweets in the shop. So I filled a bag with nut butters, rice cakes, homemade Nak'd* balls (see the recipe section for the recipe) and some protein bars. This has stopped me snacking unhealthily and unnecessarily.
Edited to add - I ate a tub of fizzy sweets yesterday, and I'm not sorry!!!!
So, while these are all simple tips, they may help you stay on track on your holidays, which may help with that dreaded 'post-holiday' feeling!
I'm off to go see some dolphins - Ireland really is the most beautiful country when the sun shines :)
